Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Oval-Shaped Card

Thanks for stopping by today to see my latest creation, my Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Oval-Shaped Card.  If you have followed my site, you know that I love making cards in the shape of cutting dies.  For this card, I used the Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Oval Dies to create the card shape.

There are three dies in the Eyelet Oval set.  For the purpose of understanding which of the three dies used for each step of creating the card, I’ve given each die a name as shown in this photo.

To create the card base for my Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Oval-Shaped Card, I folded in half a 8-1/2″ x 11″ piece of 110 lb. white card stock and placed it onto a cutting plate.  I laid the scallop oval die onto the card stock with the left side of the die outside of the edge of the cutting plate.  This was done to assure the left side of the card base remained connected after cutting it.  I then centered the intricate oval die onto the card stock.  The top cutting plate was placed in the same position as the bottom cutting plate as shown in this photo.

I ran the cutting sandwich through my die-cutting machine only twice as I did not want the back of the card base to cut, but to leave an impression.  The heavier weight of the card stock helped to achieve an impression instead of a cut.  As a result, I fussy cut around the impression on the back of the card base, which was not difficult at all.

Using the scallop oval and oval dies, I cut two Tempting Turquoise (Stampin’ Up! color) scalloped ovals and attached one to the card front and one to the card back to stabilize the card base.  The following photo shows this.

Then I used the oval die to cut from white card stock an oval.  I sponged Cracked Pistachio, Spiced Marmalade, and Fossilized Amber Ranger Distress Oxide inks onto the oval, blending as necessary.  I attached that to the back of the card front.  You can see the colors peeking through in this photo.  You can also see the beautiful flowers I created with the Heartfelt Creations Small Classic Petunia Stamps, Dies, and Prills.

The beautiful butterfly on the card front was made with the Heartfelt Creations Botanical Wings Stamp Set and Butterfly Medley Dies.

I finished the card with adding the “love” sentiment that I cut from Tempting Turquoise card stock using a Hero Arts word die.

I am submitting this card for the Tuesday Color Challenge on Splitcoaststampers.

What do you think of my Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Oval-Shaped Card?

Otterly Awesome

Essentials by Ellen has some fantastic stamps and matching dies.  Her Otterly Awesome stamp set and matching die are so adorable!  I am sharing a card I made that showcases the Otterly Awesome stamp set.

But first, I want to share that my two-year old granddaughter LOVES to craft with me, and I LOVE spending time with her crafting.  She and I have been crafting together since she was a little over one-year old.  She is amazing and has learned so much in that short time. She knows how to put paper and a die onto my die-cutting machine and turn the handle to cut out the items.  I could fill this post with information about her crafting skills, but I will stop.  But I will say that one day she will be a fantastic card maker.  You can see one of her cards at the bottom of this post.

Aren’t the otters so cute!!  Mommy otter is holding her little otter baby while enjoying the water in this ocean scene.  When die cutting the mommy otter, her arms are cut so she is able to hold her little one.

To make this card, I:

  • Stamped, colored, and die cut the two otters,
  • Placed the baby otter in mommy otter’s arms, popping up the baby with foam dots to give it some dimension,
  • Stamped, colored, and die cut the fish, starfish, and clam shell,
  • Used the Otter Ware Stamp Set to stamp and color the seaweed onto a white card stock base,
  • Used copic sketch markers to color the ocean,
  • Attached the otters to the card base,
  • Stamped the sentiment using stamps from both stamp sets, and
  • Added sequins to the card.

I enjoyed making this fun card, and my granddaughter loved the stamps and dies also. She created the following card.  I sponged some color onto the card base for her, and she selected, stamped, die cut, colored, and attached the items where she wanted them.  If you have never seen a pine tree in an ocean, you can now say you have!

I hope you are having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend remembering the ones who have defended our great country, the USA, and sacrificed their lives so we could have freedom!

1 Thessalonians 4:13  & 14

“Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.  We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”

Guneaux Designs Strumming Guitar

What does the word, strings, bring to your mind?  For me, it is my Dad’s old Gibson Dove Custom guitar.  That thought generated this Guneaux Designs Strumming Guitar card.

Why would the word strings come to my mind?  It is because today’s Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple Challenge was to think of strings when creating and submitting a card for the challenge.  The image showcased on this Guneaux Designs Strumming Guitar card is a digital image that I downloaded and colored.  I used Copic Sketch Markers in shade of browns and blues to color it.

I wanted to add a couple elements to the guitar that reminded me of my Dad’s guitar, which I have now because of his passing.  The two elements are the bird on the right and the white panel at the bottom right of the guitar.  I added white Crystal Drops to these elements to give them the look of mother of pearl.  My Dad’s guitar has a mother of pearl dove and other mother of pearl elements on it.  I thought the Crystal Drops would be perfect to replicate that.

After finishing with the image, I used a die from My Favorite Things to cut the white panel, and attached it to a turquoise card base.  Because the Guneaux Designs Strumming Guitar card is a clean and simple one, that’s all, folks!  Thank you for stopping by!

MATTHEW 5:8-10

“Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, ‘Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘I will come and heal him.’ The centurion answered and said, ‘Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed… ‘When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!’

ODBD Heart and Soul Collection

Hello, my friends!  So glad you stopped by today to see my clean and simple card I made with the ODBD Heart and Soul Collection designer paper.  I created this card for Splitcoaststampers KelliJo’s Clean and Simple Challenge, CAS416, to create a sentiment-only card.  My card consists of designer paper, a sentiment, and crystal drops. I simply used a piece of designer paper that I stamped with a “You’re So Loved” sentiment using VersaMark Ink and White Embossing Powder.  I added crystal drops on two corners and adhered the paper to a white card base.

This is the Our Daily Bread’s Heart and Soul Collection Designer Paper that I used.  I’ve identified the design I used on the card in the picture.

This is the stamp set I used for the sentiment.

Now this is a very Clean and Simple card, don’t you agree?  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a blessed week!

MATTHEW 6:1-4

Jesus said:  “Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them.  If you do you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.  So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men.  I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.  But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret.  Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Paper Purse Card with SU Paisley Petals

Welcome, my friends!  Yesterday I free-handed a Paper Purse Card with SU Paisley Petals DSP.   I designed this paper purse card for a challenge to create a card in a shape other than the normal rectangle or square.

Using my personally-designed template, I created the paper purse card base and handles with Marina Mist card stock.  I used Stampin’ Up!’s lovely retired Paisley Petals DSP on the front and back of the card base.  I made the top flap on the paper purse card with the same DSP using an Impression Obsession 6 in 1 frames die.  The die is one die that cuts out 6 different frames and they nest together perfectly.  I used the 6 frames cut from the two DSP designs, and alternated them on the flap.  I attached that onto a piece of Old Olive card stock.  I attached the flap to the card base with foam tape.  I created a Tangerine Tango rose with a Swarovski Crystal in the center and attached it to the purse flap.

Using an ODBD oval die, I cut out two ovals to which I added the sentiment and two Swarovski Crystals.  The paper purse card folds like a regular card and there is plenty of room on the inside for a personal message.  The card measures 7″ x 5-1/2″.

ODBD Dresden Quilt Die

Happy Friday, my friends!!!  My project for you today features Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Dresden Quilt Die.  The ODBD Dresden Quilt Die was released, among other wonderful products, on April 1.  The ODBD’s product release focused on quilts through dies, stamps, and designer paper.  Below is a picture of the ODBD Dresden Quilt Die. If interested, you can purchase the die by clicking on the above link.

Here is the card I made using the die.  If you look closely at the die and card, you’ll notice that I made a modification to the die cuts.

(MAY 1, 2016 UPDATE:  This card was in the favorites for the week on Splitcoaststampers.com)

(MAY 3 , 2016 UPDATE:  As noted below, I entered this card into Our Daily Bread Designs’ Shining The Light Challenge.  I just learned that this card is the winner for the challenge!!  I am so surprised and grateful to ODBD!  Thank you so much to the team that made the decision.  You can see the related information HERE!)

I think the colors of the ODBD designer papers really look great on the card.  I made the card yesterday in response to a “Ways To Use It” Challenge on Splitcoaststampers.  The Challenge, WT581, Playing Safe, was hosted by Toni (aka ravengirl) and was in recognition of National Playground Safety Week. The challenge was to “break out some of your favorite toy images” and feature one in a project.

When I read the challenge, I started reminiscing about my children as youngsters and how they loved sitting at the table with Mom, putting together puzzles, one of their favorite “toys”!  Well, the word, puzzle, was the trigger for me and my project.

I immediately thought of ODBD’s April Release related to quilts.  Why?  To me, crafting with the ODBD released quilt dies requires putting together a “puzzle”, and it takes time, or at least for me.  Therefore, the quilt represents the puzzles my children loved.  And they were in a safe environment, as they were sitting with me playing with puzzles and not playing on the playground!  Of course they had other favorite “toys” and certainly played on a playground!

I am also entering this card for the Our Daily Bread Designs, ODBDSLC273 O-D-B-D Recipe Challenge.  The recipe challenge is to use 4 items, materials or techniques beginning with each letter in ODBD.  The following is my response:

O – Old Glory Paper Pack

D – Dresden Quilt Die

B – Buttons

D – Double Stitched Rectangles Dies

I hope you enjoyed my card, and thanks for leaving comments!
