ODBD Gladiolus – You Bless Me – ODBDSLC276

Gladiolus flowers are so beautiful, and they come in a large array of colors.  The Gladiolus flower was my Mom’s favorite flower.  When I saw the Gladiolus stamp from the ODBD Gladiolous – You Bless Me stamp set, I immediately thought of her.  So this card is in memory of her.

ODBD Gladious - You Bless Me

This card will be submitted to Our Daily Bread Designs for it’s July challenge, ODBDSLC276, Anything that Grows with ODBD.  The challenge requires the use of at least one stamp from either ODBD, North Coast Creations, or Artistic Outpost.  This card is created with two ODBD products; the frame die cut and the red Gladiolus stamp.

ODBD Gladious - You Bless MeI submitted this card to the Splitcoaststampers Ways to Use It Challenge.  The challenge was to create a card and “decorate all the way to the border. Add lace to the edge, color to the edge, stamp off the edge, die cut your card with a fancy die cut whatever you do go all the way to the border.”  Therefore, I used the largest die from the ODBD Vintage Border Dies to create my card in the form of the die.

ODBD Gladious3_1
I also submitted the card for two other Splitcoaststampers Challenges: 1) F4A334, “add some sort of frame (it can be diecut, punched, stamped, embossed, etc.) to your lovely creation” . Because my card is made in the form a frame die, I decided to submit the same card for this challenge.  2) IC554, Petals, which was to draw inspiration from a website full of gorgeous floral arrangements.

If interested, you may read all the wonderful Splitcoaststampers comments on this card HERE.  You will note that the card was selected as a Favorite For The Week Ending 7/17/16, as well as a CAS (Clean and Simple) favorite.

[Jesus said,] “But I tell you who hear me:  Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.  If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other cheek, turn to him the other also.  If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.”  Luke 6:27 – 29 (NIV)

Sweet Seasons

I have a card to share that features the old Stampin’ Up! Sweet Seasons Stamp Set that was released in 2004!  I’ve had this set for ten years and never used it until I was searching for a stamp to create a beach scene.  I had forgotten about the Sweet Seasons Stamp Set, and glad I stumbled upon it!

Sweet Seasons Stamp Set

The reason I was searching for a beach scene stamp was to participate in yesterday’s Splitcoaststampers Clean And Simple (CAS) Challenge to “Hit the Beach”, CAS385.  This challenge is hosted by Kathleen Curry, who wanted to “see a beachy card from everyone” who chose to participate in the challenge.

I chose the little girl image from the Sweet Seasons Stamp Set because it reminds me of my very precious granddaughter who loves the beach.  Needless to say who will receive this card!!

This photo provides a closeup of the image.  Because I live on the west coast of Florida and the sand on the beaches are more white, my sand in the image is Brick White (Copic Sketch Marker E40).

Sweet Seasons2

I designed the card with four layers of card stock, of which three are frames.  The white frame is smaller than the Rich Razzleberry (Stampin’ Up! card stock) frame, and the Wild Wasabi (Stampin’ Up! card stock) frame is larger than the Rich Razzleberry frame.  To create the frames, I used Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Double Stitched Squares Dies.

I like the card, and I’m sure so will my granddaughter!

“I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.  If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.”  John 15:5-6

Zentangle & Japanese Notan

Zentangle & Japanese Notan

Hello, my friends!!  Before I discuss my card share today, I need to provide you with definitions for Zentangle & Japanese Notan.

Zentangle is a noun, not a verb!  It is the resulting art of creating beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.  When you create a Zentangle, you are “tangling”, which puts you into a “Zen” frame of mind.  The art method is easy and uplifting.  The tangling on my card is in the white sections of the card.

Japanese Notan is a guiding principle of Eastern art and design.  It is a Japanese word meaning dark-light, and it focuses on the interaction between positive and negative space, and embodies the ancient symbolism of the Yang and the Yin. It recognizes the separate but equally important identity of both a shape and its background.

Now, here’s my card:

Zentangle & Japanese Notan

I prepared the card in response to two Splitcoaststampers Challenges.  One challenge was to create using the Japanese Notan method of art for the Mix-Ability Challenge.  The other was to create in black and white for the Inspiration Challenge.  For the Inspiration Challenge, participants were to visit this Pinterest Board and draw inspiration from the board’s images.

This image was my inspiration.  As soon as I saw the gorgeous Zentangle boot, I knew it would be my pick!  Thus, I combined the two challenges to create my card.  :

To create the Japanese Notan portion of the card, I used the retired Stampin’ Up! Blossom Punch to cut four half blossoms from a piece of  black card stock.  I laid and glued these four pieces to the sides of the related white half blossoms.  I then used different tangling patterns to fill in the white space.  Typically, there would only be white opposite of the black for the Notan technique; however, because I combined the two challenges, I used the white space to tangle and to create my Zentangle & Japanese Notan card.  I hope you enjoy it.

“In that day you will no longer ask me anything.  I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.  Until now you have not asked for anything in my name.  Ask and you will receive and your joy will be complete.”  John 16:23 & 24

Cottage Cutz Hummingbird

Hello, my friends!  I am hoping to get back into crafting on a part-time basis at least, and I have for you today a card made with the beautiful Cottage Cutz Hummingbird die.  I die cut the pieces and colored them with copic sketch markers.

Cottage Cutz Hummingbird

The card base is white as well as the first layer that I embellished with a floral embossing folder.  I embossed the bottom portion of this layer very lightly as that is where I’ll place the sentiment when I decide on the recipient of the card.

The photo below is a closeup of the flowers and hummingbird.  I used a clear Wink of Stella Brush to add a shine and glitter to the bird’s wings, and drops of Stampin’ Up! Crystal Effects onto the floral portion of the card.  Hopefully, you can see that in the photo. Actually, I think you can see it better in the first photo…LOL.

JUNE 26, 2016 UPDATE:  Card was included in both the Splitcoaststampers Favorites of the Week, and CAS Favorites.

This photo is a side view of the beautiful hummingbird and floral arrangement.  I used copic sketch markers to color all of the die cuts.
Cottage Cutz Hummingbird-2_1I am posting this card on Splitcoastampers for one of the site’s challenges, the Splitcoaststampers “Wing It” Clean and Simple Challenge CAS382.  The challenge is, “Winging It with Birds, Bees and Butterflies” to celebrate the first day of summer.  Kiagc (aka Kia) is the host for the challenge.  She is such a wonderful lady and I love her work!  Hope you enjoy the card and come back soon!

ODBD Dresden Quilt Die

Happy Friday, my friends!!!  My project for you today features Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Dresden Quilt Die.  The ODBD Dresden Quilt Die was released, among other wonderful products, on April 1.  The ODBD’s product release focused on quilts through dies, stamps, and designer paper.  Below is a picture of the ODBD Dresden Quilt Die. If interested, you can purchase the die by clicking on the above link.

Here is the card I made using the die.  If you look closely at the die and card, you’ll notice that I made a modification to the die cuts.

(MAY 1, 2016 UPDATE:  This card was in the favorites for the week on Splitcoaststampers.com)

(MAY 3 , 2016 UPDATE:  As noted below, I entered this card into Our Daily Bread Designs’ Shining The Light Challenge.  I just learned that this card is the winner for the challenge!!  I am so surprised and grateful to ODBD!  Thank you so much to the team that made the decision.  You can see the related information HERE!)

I think the colors of the ODBD designer papers really look great on the card.  I made the card yesterday in response to a “Ways To Use It” Challenge on Splitcoaststampers.  The Challenge, WT581, Playing Safe, was hosted by Toni (aka ravengirl) and was in recognition of National Playground Safety Week. The challenge was to “break out some of your favorite toy images” and feature one in a project.

When I read the challenge, I started reminiscing about my children as youngsters and how they loved sitting at the table with Mom, putting together puzzles, one of their favorite “toys”!  Well, the word, puzzle, was the trigger for me and my project.

I immediately thought of ODBD’s April Release related to quilts.  Why?  To me, crafting with the ODBD released quilt dies requires putting together a “puzzle”, and it takes time, or at least for me.  Therefore, the quilt represents the puzzles my children loved.  And they were in a safe environment, as they were sitting with me playing with puzzles and not playing on the playground!  Of course they had other favorite “toys” and certainly played on a playground!

I am also entering this card for the Our Daily Bread Designs, ODBDSLC273 O-D-B-D Recipe Challenge.  The recipe challenge is to use 4 items, materials or techniques beginning with each letter in ODBD.  The following is my response:

O – Old Glory Paper Pack

D – Dresden Quilt Die

B – Buttons

D – Double Stitched Rectangles Dies

I hope you enjoyed my card, and thanks for leaving comments!

Happy Birthday Greeting Card Purple Starling

Thanks for stopping by!  I’m sharing with you today a beautiful happy birthday greeting card featuring a Purple Starling.  I created the card in response to two Splitcoaststampers Challenges: 1) Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simply Card Challenge, CAS373, which is to create a happy birthday card; and 2) Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge, IC541, Birds of a Feather.  This challenge involved viewing this Birds of a Feather site, selecting a photo of a bird, and developing a card based on how  the photo inspired you.  I selected this photo of a Purple Starling as my inspiration, which resulted in this card.

UPDATE:  This card was included in Splitcoaststampers Favorites of the Week ending April 25!  “Congratulations! In the General Stamping forum, you’re in the FAVORITES for the week ending April 24.

The bird on my card isn’t a starling (I think), but it’s a bird and I colored it shades of purple, although it looks blue in the photo. There are so many beautiful birds on the Birds of a Feather site that it was difficult to pick just one for inspiration.

The bird stamp that I used is one from Martha Stewart.  The card, outside border, and center piece are in the shape of one of the new Spellbinders Fairmont Lables Dies. I created the border using Brushos.  (I’m starting to like Brushos!!)  To add something extra, I attached three SU Candy Dots to the bottom corner of the card.
