Memory Box Reverse Butterfly Collage

Memory Box Reverse Butterfly CollageHello!  Have you had a good week?  For me, I’ve been sick for several days with flu-like symptoms.  I’m feeling better, but not well, and I’m hoping this passes soon as I want to get back to crafting!  I made this card Tuesday morning, but then started feeling rather sick.  Needless to say I wasn’t feeling well enough to post it. Thus, today I am sharing it with you. This card is a Mother’s Day Card and it features the Memory Box Reverse Butterfly Collage.  The Happy Mother’s Day sentiment is on the inside of the card.

I made the card in response to a Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge, CC581 – BLISSFUL WONDERS OF SOFT SKIES WITH PIZZAZZ, using Stampin’ Up! colors.  The title of the Challenge makes it obvious what Stampin’ Up! colors were selected.

BLACKBERRY BLISS, WISTERIA WONDER, SOFT SKY, and PEAR PIZZAZZ.

(UPDATE:  This card was selected as a favorite on Splitcoaststampers for the Week Ending May 8, 2016)

Memory Box Reverse Butterfly Collage

I used the Memory Box Reverse Butterfly Collage Die to make a stencil.  Laying the stencil over the piece of Whisper White Card Stock, I sponged over it the four colors of the challenge.  I added a sequin per butterfly as adding sequins to the card gives extra points, otherwise called “dessert”, for the challenge.

After masking the image, I lightly covered a script background stamp with Soft Sky Ink and I stamped it over the masked image  (if you look closely you can see the script).  I then die cut three sets of flowers and leaves in the four colors and added them to the card. As you can see in the picture below, I added micro beads for the center of each flower.

You will note the paper piercing around the Whisper White panel.  I used the new Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Pierced Rectangles Dies to accomplish the piercing.  I also used two other ODBD dies to create the floral images; ODBD Bitty Blossoms and ODBD Lovely Leaves.

Side Note:  As a Christian, finding companies with a focus on Biblical verses and other related products is difficult.  However, late last year I discovered Our Daily Bread Designs that focuses on this, and I strongly recommend them if you’re looking for a place that creates products based on faith!

The photo below gives a side view of the card.  I hope you enjoy the card, and will check out ODBD!  Thanks for stopping by and, if interested, I would love to hear about your thoughts on this card.  You can ask questions or leave comments in the bubble at the top-right of the post, or at the bottom of the post, whichever one shows.

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers.  For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?  Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?  What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?  What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?  For we are the temple of the living God.  As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people”. ”  2 Corinthians 6:14 -16

SU Fifth Avenue Floral

Hello, stampers!!  So glad you stopped by as I have for you today a Happy Mother’s Day card featuring Stampin’ Up! (SU) Fifth Avenue Floral Stamp Set, which is retired.  I made the card for the following Sketch Challenge on Splitcoaststampers:

SC588

The Sketch Challenge, SC588, hosted by Carey aka cpayette, was fun but took some time to discern.

SU Fifth Avenue Floral

I was undecided about how to approach the challenge initially. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to use designer series paper or not, and if so, where in the design. Then I found in my cabinet an OLD SU designer series paper (i.e., Sweet & Sour Speciality Designer Series Paper) and I knew the answer to the question I was pondering. To me, this paper is so pretty with Rose Red and Pumpkin Pie as the main colors. You can’t see it in the photo, but the paper comes with one side of all the designs embossed.

(UPDATE:  This card is a Favorite for the Week Ending April 17, 2016 on Splitcoaststampers!)

I then decided I wanted a floral image on the card and decided on the Hibiscus stamp from the SU Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set. I have many beautiful Hibiscus bushes in my yard, so they are special to me. Not my favorite flower, but special.

I used the swirly stamp from Everything Eleanor to create my stem after masking the flower. To give the image a little something extra, I used SU Rose Red and Pumpkin Pie Candy Dots and included two bees.

I hope you enjoy the card, and thanks for looking and leaving a comment!!

Hot Wax Painting Technique

Hello, crafters!  I have for you a piece of art featuring the hot wax painting technique.

Last weekend Splitcoaststampers, namely Audrie (girlgeek 101), hosted an “Inspiration Challenge”, IC539 – Seaweed Kisses.   Audrie provides two options for this Challenge.  I chose Audrie’s Challenge #1 – “Select any picture, or journal, on the Seaweed Kisses site, and create something brand new, totally unique, and reflecting your own personal style using it as your inspiration.” Seaweed Kisses is the WEBSITE chosen for the challenge.

I chose THIS as my inspiration piece.  As soon as I saw the page, I immediately thought of hot wax painting. On the site, the lady is creating wrapping paper with craft paper (not card stock) and paint. The tubes of paint brought to mind hot wax painting. Can’t explain the connection; just was inspiring.

Hot Wax Painting Technique

For the journal item, I cut a 5″ x 7″ piece of chipboard and glued to it a piece of DSP.  I heated my mini craft iron, placed it into the containers of three colors of wax paint to melt them (selecting one color at a time), and applied the hot wax over the DSP.  It took many, many times of dipping into the wax and applying it to the paper to get my “somewhat” desired result. I would let the wax dry and then reapply over and over.

Hot Wax Painting Technique I then copied pages of my Bible that I wanted to use as my journal. After cutting each piece, I used Cherry Cobbler ink for the edges and the words I wanted on the pieces – With God All Things Are Possible!  To add some extras, I colored and die cut three butterflies.  BTW, this is only the second time I’ve used hot wax paint, so I may have used it incorrectly, but it is what it is.

Hope you enjoy my piece of art!  I sure had fun creating it!

ODBD Christmas Candles Christmas Card

This ODBD Christmas Candles Christmas Card is my last Christmas card for 2015. Among other items, it features Our Daily Bread Designs Christmas Candles Dies, which I think are rather striking.

ODBD Christmas Candles Christmas Card

I used the ODBD Lovely Leaves Dies to enhance the candles.  I placed the vines and pine needles behind the candles and added poinsettias onto the vines.  I made the poinsettias on the vines, four corners, and bottom of the candles with the Spellbinders Holiday 5×7 Holly Frame Dies (S6-040).    I used the same die to make the Very Vanilla holly and berries frame upon which the candles sit.  (By the way, the Spellbinders Holiday Collection Dies are 50% off while they last.  Use discount code HOLIDAY50 when ordering.)   Lastly, I used ODBD Merry Christmas Dies for my sentiment.

Other supplies used:

Stampin’ Up! Lost Lagoon Card Stock (item #133679)

ODBD Christmas Candles

Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) has several beautiful Christmas dies this year.  The ODBD Christmas Candles (CDB120) is one set of beautiful dies.  Another set is the ODBD Lovely Leaves die set (CSBD106).  Both die set were used to create this Christmas card.

This is a photo of the ODBD Christmas Candles and Lovely Leaves Die Sets.

ODBD Christmas CandlesI placed the ODBD Christmas Candles, foliage, and flowers onto an oval piece of white card stock that I embossed with Stampin’ Up!’s Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder.  I topped that off with a red bow made with the ODBD Small Bow Dies.

ODBD Christmas Candles

The layer behind the candles is a red piece of ODBD Christmas Collection 2015 Card Stock that I cut with the Spellbinders A2 Filigree Delight Die (S5-177).  The shiny gold, snowflake piece of designer paper behind the red card stock is from the Craft Smith Gold Gift Pad. Notice that the gold snowflake paper is also featured around the candles.
