Happy Birthday – Falliday Fest

Thanks for stopping by, my friends!  My card share today is a Happy Birthday card that I made for the Splitcoaststampers Falliday Fest.  Dr Sonja’s (Sonja Van Laar) Falliday Fest Challenge (FF16DrSonja) is related to a card drive for Hospice of St. Francis in Melbourne, FL.  She asked for birthday cards with wrinkles.  The technique she recommended to get wrinkles is the Faux Silk Technique (tutorial).

This Happy Birthday card is a gate-fold card that I created using the Spellbinders Die mentioned below.  I cut the gate fold from Tempting Turquoise Card Stock and adhered to it a panel made with the same Spellbinders die using SU Flock Together DSP.

To get wrinkles on the card, I followed the Faux Silk Technique.  Once the tissue was dry, I wrinkled it and adhered it to the center piece of the card.  I stamped the SU Happy Birthday Greetings stamp in Tempting Turquoise ink and onto the tissue paper.

Firm Reliance on Divine Providence!

Jesus said to his disciples, “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.  Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.  People do not pick figs from thorn-bushes, or grapes from briers.  The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things our of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.”  Luke 6:43-45

Color Blocking Happy Birthday

My friends, today is Saturday and that means it is time for an Inspiration Challenge!  That is, an Inspiration Challenge on Splitcoaststampers.  Audrie (girlgeek101) provided a great Pinterest board to be inspired by, which is a color blocking board. Audrie always picks great sites for inspiration. This is the card I created for the color blocking inspiration challenge, and it is a Happy Birthday card.

Color Blocking Happy Birthday

My card is made from card stock, ribbon, dies and a metal buckle…no ink or stamps. I designed it around my two inspiration pieces: 1) this shoe image, and 2)  this color-blocked dress

Of all the images on the board, the shoe and dress caught my eye because of the colors and shapes. The shoe’s colors, heel and buckle inspired the left side of my card (i.e. turquoise and pink blocks and a large buckle). The dress inspired the shape and color of all the blocks on the card. I threaded a black ribbon through the buckle to resemble the strip of black fabric running at an angle near the mid-section of the dress. To finish the card, I added the happy birthday sentiment and a silhouette of poppies.

Happy Birthday Frozen Style

I have had three birthdays to celebrate in the last several days, one of which was for my one-year old granddaughter.  She LOVES the Disney movie, Frozen; therefore, I made her card around the Frozen theme and call it “Happy Birthday Frozen Style“.  As you can see, the card is a Tri-Shutter card.

UPDATE:  This card was chosen for one of the Splitcoaststampers FAVORITES for the week ending December 20, 2015.  Splitcoaststampers’ comment:

“Congratulations! In the General Stamping forum, you’re in the FAVORITES for the week ending December 20, 2015.”

The above photo shows the happy birthday sentiment and “frozen” flower.  You will note the blue stone in the center of the flower as well as on the sides of the card. My granddaughter’s birthstone is Blue Zircon as she was born in December.  I had to include them on the card.  Several elements on the card are embossed with Stampin’ Up!’s Iridescent Ice embossing powder to accentuate the “frozen” theme.

The above photo shows the ice icicles that I included on both sides of the card.  You can also see them in the below photo.

The crafting paper that I used (see below) in making the card is from the Disney Frozen Mega Paper Pad that can be purchased at Walmart as well as other places.  I was surprised to see the color yellow in the paper pad, but it was perfect as my granddaughter loves the color yellow.

(FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER! I share things there that you won’t find here.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FROZEN STYLE BIRTHDAY CARD

Chewbacca Happy Birthday Card

Hello and thanks for stopping by!  Today I have a Chewbacca Happy Birthday Card for you that is quite different from other cards I’ve made.  This past weekend was my son-in-law’s birthday and he loves the Star Wars character, Chewbacca.  Therefore, my birthday card to him had to be related to Chewbacca!

Chewbacca Happy Birthday Card

Because I drew the elements of the card, I spent several hours (and days) drawing Chewbacca and his seat.  I would draw Chewbacca and the seat over and over and over, and my trash can is evidence! 🙂  I just could not reach a point that I was happy with him.  But, all good things take patience, so I prevailed.

Drawing Chewbacca was only half of the battle.  Coloring him was a nightmare! (LOL). I used copic sketch markers to color him and I’ve not used copics but a very few times.  I certainly have not used them for something this difficult. However, my love for my son-in-law pushed me to carry on.  And, so I did!  Now if you are an expert at coloring with copics, I’m sure you will have a lot of feedback for me on how I could improve on Chewbacca, right??? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Let me give you a better look at him.

Chewbacca Happy Birthday Card

The Chewbacca Happy  Birthday Card shows him standing inside the spaceship.  Can you tell that?  I do have to say that I really like the sky outside the spaceship’s windows! The Chewbacca figure hides this a little, but the center of the sky is lighter than the surrounding sky areas.  I wanted it to appear that the spaceship’s lights were shining into the darkness.  LOL  So how did I do?

Chewbacca Happy Birthday Card

The above photo shows the dimensions on the card.  The seat is adhered to the card with Stampin’ Up! Dimensionals and Chewbacca is attached with thicker foam dots. Therefore, he rests higher on the card than does his seat.

I hope you enjoy the card!  Any questions or comments are welcomed!

Oh, BTW, my son-in-law loved the card!

Soho Subway Designer Series Paper – Happy Birthday Card

Soho Subway Designer Series PaperThe new Stampin’ Up! Soho Subway Designer Series Paper  (DSP)  (130140) is featured on this Happy Birthday card.

Soho Subway Designer Series Paper

The design used on the card is my favorite of the designs within the DSP.  The colors for the Soho Subway Designer Series Paper are Crisp Cantaloupe (a new color), Early Express, Island Indigo, Summer Starfruit, and Very Vanilla.

The card base is a piece of the new Crisp Cantaloupe Card Stock (In Color – 131298), and the second layer is a piece of the new Baked Brown Sugar Card Stock (In Color – 131296).  The third layer is the Subway Designer Series Paper design.

I made this card for a very special friend, Lin, for her recent birthday.  The sentiment, “Happy Birthday to you!” is from the new Label Love Stamp Set (130622 – clear).  Label Love Stamp SetThis stamp set matches a new punch, the Artisan Label (130920).

The top portion of the card spotlights a butterfly from the Papillon Potpourri Stamp Set (123759 – clear).  You will note that the butterfly is two different ink colors; Crisp Papillon Potpourri Clear-Mount Stamp SetCantaloupe Classic Ink (a new In Color – 131176) and Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink (another new In Color -131174).  I used the Rock and Roll Technique with the stamp image before stamping it onto Very Vanilla Card Stock.

The mats for the image were made with the Window Frames Collection Framelits (129021), using the Crisp Cantaloupe Card Stock and the design from the Soho Subway Designer Series Paper.  This picture is a closeup of the butterfly and mats.

As stated above, the sentiment is from the Label Love stamp set.  It is matted with Baked Brown Sugar Card Stock.  The bow that rests above the sentiment is an old Stampin’ Up! ribbon that matches perfectly with the Crisp Cantaloupe Card Stock.  It is the old Groovy Guava Double Stitched Ribbon.   This picture is a closeup of the ribbon and sentiment.

Happy Birthday Card for Him – Brayer Project – Guneaux Designs

Happy Birthday to my brother!!  I made this Happy Birthday card for him using a brayer.  I don’t create many brayered projects; but when I do, I love the process!

Happy Birthday Card for Him - Brayer Project

The Happy Birthday card features some of Stampin’ Up!’s new and upcoming Annual Catalog products.  The card base was made with the new 2013-2015 In Color, Pistachio Pudding Card Stock (131294).  The second layer is the new card stock in the Subtles Collection, Soft Sky (131203). The sky was brayered with Soft Sky Classic Ink (131181) and Marina Mist Classic Ink (126962).  The field was brayered with the new 2013-2015 In Color, Pistachio Pudding Classic Ink (131177), Old Olive Classic Ink (126953), Always Artichoke Classic Ink (126972), and another new 2013-2015 In Color, Baked Brown Sugar (131174).

The stamp image of the mare and her foal is not a Stampin’ Up! product.  However, I love the stamp, and my brother loves horses.  They have always been of big part of his life. The “Happy Birthday” sentiment is from an upcoming Hostess set, Morning Meadow (129678).

REMINDER:  There are 18 days left to purchase the Stampin’ Up! retiring stamp sets and retiring accessories.
