SU Sky is the Limit

For today’s Inspiration Challenge (IC) on Splitcoaststampers, I chose to use the SU Sky is the Limit stamp set to create my card. This Sale-a-bration stamp set is available until February 15. As for the Inspiration Challenge, the hostess selected a fantastic web page of 100 brilliant color combinations from which to choose for making a card. This page is a great reference for future color combinations projects if you are looking for inspiration for making cards.

I chose #70, Arctic Sunrise, as my guide for making my card. This is the picture of #70:

I love the color choices for #70, and I love the scene that reflects the colors. I, therefore, decided to try and recreate the scene using similar colors. I tried to match the colors with Stampin’ Up! ink as closely as I could, and I added a small amount of yellow. This is the card I created.

After creating the scene, which has an iceberg on the left, I stamped the image and sentiment. I made the card for my son-in-law who is soaring high in his career. I’m very proud of him!!

Pleated Skirt Fold Technique Tutorial

Hello, and thanks for stopping by! I hope you had a great weekend! It’s Monday, and I have for you a tutorial for the Pleated Skirt Fold Technique. The card I prepared for this tutorial is a response to the two challenges on Splitcoaststamper.com (SCS) as described below.

Technique Lovers Challenge (TLC572) – create a card using the Pleated Skirt Fold Technique, and
Clean and Simple Challenge (CAS362 – Won’t You Call Me Sweetheart) – create a card that includes a heart.

I combined the two challenges and this is the result:

Becky Roberts, a long-time Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, provided a tutorial for the first challenge, Pleated Skirt Fold Technique, on SCS. However, I am not sure if there is access to the tutorial if you are not a member of the Splitcoaststampers.com site. I just don’t know. Therefore, I decided to include a tutorial for you today.

PLEATED SKIRT FOLD TECHNIQUE TUTORIAL

General Supplies Needed:

Two-sided paper (I used Stampin’ Up! Love Impressions Specialty Designer Series Paper);
Stamp(s) ( I used Stampin’ Up! Gentler Times, I {Heart} Hearts, and You’re A Gem Stamp Sets);
Paper Trimmer;
Scissors;
Adhesive; and
Additional supplies needed to decorate a card. I used:
- Red Glimmer Paper;
- Stampin’ Up! Real Red and Basic Gray Classic Ink;
- Stampin’ Up! Blushing Bride Satin Pleated Ribbon and Clear Trim Tinsel; and
- Stampin’ Up! Key Trinket.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut a 7-3/4″ x 3″ piece of two-sided designer paper.

2. Measure at the top of the upper-right corner of the paper down to the 1-1/4″ point and make a mark.

3. Measure from the bottom-left side of the paper over to the 3″ point and make a mark.

4. Align these marks in the cutting channel of your paper trimmer

5. Trim this piece off and put to the side.

6. Place the other piece onto your scoring tool, and score at the 3″, 3-1/2″, 5″, and 6-1/8″ marks.

7. Fold a valley fold at the 3″ score line, mountain fold at the 3-1/2″ score line, valley fold at the 5″, and mountain at 6-1/8″.

8. Crease the fold lines with a bone folder. Add adhesive to the back of the pleats so they will remain flat. The piece of paper will look like this after folding and adhering it together.

9. Adhere this to the bottom portion of a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card base. You’ll need to use scissors to trim off a small piece of the pleated skirt that will overhang on the right side of the card base.

10. Decorate the remaining portion of your card as desired.

Stampin’ Up! Birthday Blooms

Hello my friends! Are you anxious for spring? I certainly am! Actually, the weather in my part of Florida has been totally abnormal for some time now, and I have azalea bushes blooming already. I love when my hibiscus bushes start blooming as some of them have 6″ – 8″ flowers! They are beautiful!

To get me in the frame of mind for spring, I’ve created a beautiful Happy Birthday card featuring the Stampin’ Up! Birthday Blooms Stamp Set and Stampin’ Up! Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper. The large floral stamp in the stamp set is so gorgeous and can be colored with numerous colors. I’m not 100% sure, but I think the image is of a peony.

Stampin’ Up! Dress Up

It has been so time since I used my Stampin’ Up! Dress Up Framelits (retired), and I try to not miss an opportunity to use them. This week on Splitcoaststampers.com, the featured stamper is Kathy at MochaFrap. As I’ve shared before, other members of the site choose a card to CASE from the featured stamper’s gallery. Kathy’s gallery is full of whimsical artwork. I chose this card to case as it features a similar die (Sizzix) .

To select a designer series paper to create my card, I researched current fashion trends and found this outfit that I like.
It was good to see floral outfits are in style! The floral outfit was the reason I selected the Stampin’ Up! Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper for my design. This DSP has beautiful floral designs. Here’s a picture of the paper.

Here are closeups of the cardigan and sentiment on my card.

I used Stampin’ Up! Basic Pearls for the necklace and cardigan buttons, and Copic markers to achieve the color I wanted. I created the sentiment in MSWord and stamped the spool image over the sentiment. The spool stamp is from the retired Stampin’ Up! Sew Suite Stamp Set.

The background designer series paper is from the retired Stampin’ Up! Sweet Stitches Designer Series Paper. I have an extra, never been open, package of this DSP if there is interest, I’ll sell it to you.

Splitcoastampers Color Challenge – Non-traditional Valentine Card

Hello, and thanks for stopping by! This week I entered Splitcoastampers color challenge to create a card with three Stampin’ Up! colors; Strawberry Slush, Mint Macaron, and Early Espresso.

The challenge included a “dessert” to create a non-traditional valentine card using these colors. Additionally, participants could use non-traditional valentine images. This is the card I created for the challenge.

So, what are your thoughts? Do you think it’s non-traditional for a valentine card?

When I was in the decision-making process for the card, I thought of a flamingo stamp I have that is included in a retired Stampin’ Up! stamp set, Valentine Defined. I further thought about the flamingos and their synchronized mating dance. Thus, I decided the sentiment had to be Synchronized Love!

Dry Embossing With A Stencil Technique

Yesterday’s card challenge at Splitcoaststampers was to create a card featuring the dry embossing with a stencil technique. It has been many years since I’ve used a stencil to dry emboss card stock. Regardless, I found the challenge to be fun. When was the last time you dry embossed with a stencil?

To create this card, I used an Anna Griffin Brass Stencil and Whisper White Card Stock. With a correct die-cutting sandwich, I ran the paper and stencil through my die-cutting machine, which created an embossed piece of card stock. Turning the embossed card stock face up, I placed the stencil over the embossed areas and used three different colors of ink to color the paper. Because the embossed areas are raised, it was easy to color over the stencil onto the card stock.

I have a matching butterfly punch that I used to punch out yellow and pink butterflies. These butterflies were adhered underneath and down the sides of the embossed and colored card stock. I adhered this piece to a Ballet Blue card base and created the sentiment with a ribbon attached.

It is just that simply!!! If you’ve not tried this in a while, give it a try. It’s easy and fun.
