SU Botanical Builder Dies

Tomorrow is Tuesday, and that means another week has gone by since the last Color Challenge on Splitcoaststampers. My card for tomorrow’s color challenge features the SU Botanical Builder Dies. I think the floral dies are so pretty and can be combined in so many ways to create gorgeous flowers.

Vicki Dutcher (vdutchr) is the hostess for this week’s Color Challenge, and she asked us to use Stampin’ Up! colors of Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, and Emerald Envy. These colors are beautiful together! Here is my card featuring the colors.

To create the card, I began by cutting a Solar White card stock panel with the ODBD Majestic Medallion Die (the largest die). Laying the die over the die cut, I used a Black Copic Multiliner to mark the edges. Then I used the Saharan Screen Card Panel Die to cut out a Solar White stencil. I laid the stencil over the Majestic Medallion die cut and, using SU Tempting Turquoise and Emerald Envy classic ink, I alternated sponging the inks across the stencil onto the other die cut.

The above photo shows the sponging, as well as a white embossed bird and birdcage. Vicki’s challenge included for dessert (i.e., extra points) the addition of a bird. I also added red cardinals onto the sentiment piece that I made with the ODBD Ornate Ovals Dies (smallest die). I added the sentiment, One-of-a-Kind, onto this piece in red ink. The sentiment is from the Altenew One Of A Kind Stamp Set. The following photo is of the sentiment.

For the foliage around the flowers, I used the ODBD Lovely Leaves Dies to create the leaves and sponged on Emerald Envy ink with different intensity so they would vary in color. You can see the variations in the photo below.

After adhering the flowers to the card, I embellished them by placing Tempting Turquoise and/or Real Red candy dots in the centers.

ODBD Ornamental Crosses Sympathy Card

I find it difficult to make sympathy cards as, typically, there are a lot of emotions involved. However, I created this ODBD Ornamental Crosses Sympathy Card for a dear friend who lost a very special person in her life. My heart breaks for her, but I know our Lord will carry her through this very difficult time!

I used the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) dies and sentiment stamp to create the card. The card base is a piece of White Linen Card Stock to which I adhered two die cuts from the ODBD Layered Lacey Ovals.

I die cut three crosses with the ODBD Ornamental Crosses dies and glued them together. I adhered the crosses to the purple die cut, and stamped the sentiment at the bottom. The sentiment is from ODBD Faith Card Sentiments.

ODBD Old Mill

Hello, visitors!! I have for you today a card featuring the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Old Mill Stamp. I prepared this card for Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge for today (see below).

I love the ODBD Old Mill stamp as it reminds me of my home town in West Virginia (WV) where an old mill is located. Have you heard of Babcock State Park in WV? The park has this old mill called, The Glade Creek Grist Mill. These two pictures are of the mill in the summer and fall.

The following is a picture of the mill that my niece gave me. She is a professional photographer and she took the picture during the fall. I keep it hanging in my craft room as it reminds me of home.

The Glade Creek Grist Mill was completed in 1976. Fully operational, the mill was built as a recreation of one that once ground grain on Glade Creek long before Babcock Park became a state park. Known as Cooper’s Mill, it stood on the present location of the park’s administration building parking lot.

Of special interest, the mill was created by combining parts and pieces from three mills that once dotted the state of WV. The basic structure of the mill came from the Stoney Creek Grist Mill which dates back to 1890. It was dismantled and moved piece by piece to Babcock from a spot near Campbelltown in Pocahontas County, WV. After an accidental fire destroyed the Spring Run Grist Mill near Petersburg, Grant County, WV, only the overshot water wheel could be salvaged. Other parts for the mill came from the Onego Grist Mill near Seneca Rocks, Pendleton County, WV.

A living monument to the over 500 mills that thrived in WV at the turn of the century, the Glade Creek Grist Mill provides freshly ground cornmeal that park guests may purchase, depending on availability and stream conditions. Visitors to the mill may journey back to the time when grinding grain by a rushing stream was a way of life, and the groaning mill wheel was music to the miller’s ear.

As a teenager, I spent a lot of time at the state park, sitting on rocks near the mill. At adulthood, I spend a lot of time with relatives having family reunions at the park. These memories swirled around in my head as I was coloring the image on my card! Here are some additional photos of the card.

Winter Wonderland Scene

It’s Tuesday and that means it another Color Challenge on Splitcoaststampers! The colors selected for today’s challenge are Stampin’ Up! (SU) Pool Party, Always Artichoke, and Cherry Cobbler! For extra points (i.e., dessert), I included some “Bling”! My card, a Winter Wonderland Scene, is my submission for the challenge. This is the third week that I have been a guest designer for the Splitcoaststampers color challenges and I’ve enjoyed it!

My card’s main feature is a Winter Wonderland Scene made with a Cottage Cutz die and Solar White Card Stock. To break up the white and create a red building, I cut out a second Winter Wonderland Scene using Cherry Cobbler Card Stock. I cut off the red church from the die cut and adhered it to the original white one. I also used an Impression Obsession Die to cut and add three cardinals.

To get extra points (i.e., dessert) for the card, I added various colors of Stickles glue around the scene! Hopefully it shows up well enough for you to see the bling.

Finally, I added a poinsettia on the left-bottom corner that I made with Spellbinders dies. I added Gold Flower Soft to the center of the flower.

Color Blocking Happy Birthday

My friends, today is Saturday and that means it is time for an Inspiration Challenge! That is, an Inspiration Challenge on Splitcoaststampers. Audrie (girlgeek101) provided a great Pinterest board to be inspired by, which is a color blocking board. Audrie always picks great sites for inspiration. This is the card I created for the color blocking inspiration challenge, and it is a Happy Birthday card.

My card is made from card stock, ribbon, dies and a metal buckle…no ink or stamps. I designed it around my two inspiration pieces: 1) this shoe image, and 2) this color-blocked dress

Of all the images on the board, the shoe and dress caught my eye because of the colors and shapes. The shoe’s colors, heel and buckle inspired the left side of my card (i.e. turquoise and pink blocks and a large buckle). The dress inspired the shape and color of all the blocks on the card. I threaded a black ribbon through the buckle to resemble the strip of black fabric running at an angle near the mid-section of the dress. To finish the card, I added the happy birthday sentiment and a silhouette of poppies.

Power Poppy Apples In Season

Hello, my friends! This is my second week as a Guest Designer for Splitcoaststampers’ Tuesday Color Challenge. This week’s challenge is hosted by the wonderful Barbara (bejoyce). The colors she chose for the challenge are the Stampin’ Up! (SU) colors of Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, and Mossy Meadow. Her “dessert” (i.e., extra points) is “Summer Treats”. For my card, I used the Power Poppy Apples In Season Digital Stamp Set for the image.

After coloring the image, I used a SU Oval Framelit to cut it out. I then used Neenah Solar White Card Stock as my card base and cut it into the shape of the largest SU Oval Framelit. I used the SU colors for some of my coloring and Copics for the remainder.

I also cut a Daffodil Delight oval in the shape of the largest SU Oval Framelits to add a touch of yellow behind the image. I allowed three Clear Crystal Drops to dry completely and colored them with a yellow marker before adding them as an embellishment. I colored around the image with a blue copic marker and added the “Thank You” sentiment from Catherine Pooler’s Butterfly Notes Stamp set, which is unavailable currently.

Why did I chose this image as my “Summer Treat”? The Golden Delicious apples remind me of my family’s summer treat of picking apples and making apple sauce, apple butter, apple pies, and so on. I loved going to my uncle’s to pick the apples from his many and varied, gorgeous apple trees.

Apple blossoms can be various colors, depending upon the type of apple. Sometimes, a particular tree, such as a Golden Delicious tree, will produce white blossoms while another could produce white/pinkish blossoms. Therefore, I added just a touch of pink onto the blossoms.
