CAS-UAL Fridays Tutu – Happy Birthday Shadow Box Card

CAS-UAL Fridays Tutu – Happy Birthday Shadow Box Card

Yesterday was my precious granddaughter’s birthday and I created this shadow box card for her using the Cas-ual Fridays Tutu Stamp Set.  I have often talked about my granddaughter, Mikayla, who just turned four years old!  Wow, time is flying by and she is growing up.  It seems like yesterday that I was holding her in my arms right after she was born.  This little girl makes my heart so very happy!  Therefore, I created this card in colors she loves and little girls dancing in their tutus.  She loves putting on a tutu and dancing around.  She is so precious and I love her immensely.

Malachi 3:2

“But who can endure the day of his coming?  Who can stand when he appears?  For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap.”

When I saw the Cas-ual Fridays Tutu Stamp Set, I knew I had to have it as it reminds me of my granddaughter.  To create the card, I covered the ballerina stamps in an Altenew Sands Dune ink and stamped them onto Neenah Solar White Cardstock.  I repeated the process but used pink and purple inks and fussy cut the tutus and glued them onto the tutus of the Sands Dune stamped girls.

I created “wood floors” for the stage by adding marked lines to a piece of woodgrain cardstock.  (I later added an additional piece to this.)

I cut a cooking skewer to the right length and colored it purple with a Copic Marker to serve as a drapery rod.  I used pieces of designer paper and folded them accordion style for draperies and used a Japenese Screw Punch to punch a hole through each one.  I formed pieces of designer paper for drapery rod holders.  The draperies were placed onto the rod and the rod holders were attached to the rod.

I used one of the Heartfelt Creations 6X6 “Foldout” cards to create a stage for the dancing girls.  [HFC calls the card a foldout card, but to me, it is a shadow box card.]  The pink wall and wooden floor were attached inside the box and then the drapery rod and draperies.  Afterward, I added designer paper around the outside of the shadow box.

The next step was to add the ballerinas to the stage.  I used acetate to glue the backs of them to the floor and wall.  Then I added the doggie to represent Mikayla’s little brown dog.

To finish the shadow box card, I added:

  • The “Mikayla’s Dance Studio” sign,
  • Happy birthday sentiment,
  • Twirling sentiment from the stamp set.

The shadow box would stand up on its own, but I added a stand to the back of the card to reinforce it and add my personal note to my granddaughter.

I hope you have enjoyed the shadow box card creation.  I enjoyed making it.

  2. Your shadow card is perfect for your little dancer!!
What detail you added to make it seem like a grand performance, the stage, and even the curtain. A labor of love, Bev, and I am sure your darling Granddaughter is going to love it as it relates to her personally. LOVE everything about this wonderful creation!!!

    Hugs

  4. I love every perfect detail of this amazing card for Mikayla! I know her mom will put this in a special place for her, and she will treasure it more and more with each passing year!! How very, very special, Bev!!

  5. Bev, your heart and soul went into this card and it shows. How fun for a four year old. I hope she is thrilled by it. If there is one age I love above all other it’s a four year old. They are old enough to be “potty trained” and tell you if hungry, thirsty or hurting. They have not yet learned sarcasm. LOVE that age. They love you unconditionally and probably always will. I love this card and the work that went into it. Your imagination has no limits.

  6. Oh my Bev!! You REALLY know how to come up with a wonderful and well structured scene on your papercraft projects!! I am in awe of your talent! The colors and the darling little images are so sweet!! Thanks for sharing! HUGS
