Beach Scene Card – Blending Pencil Shavings Technique
The blending colored pencil shavings technique is one that I have not tried before creating this beach scene card. I created the card for the Dirty Dozen Fan Club April Monthly Theme of “Perfect Blend”. It is a birthday card for my special grandson.
Romans 12:3
“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.”
I used a hand-held pencil sharpener to sharpen colored pencils, placing the shavings onto a piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock. Using my index finger, I rubbed the colored shavings onto the cardstock until I achieved the tone I wanted. I began with purple pencil shavings, then pink, turquoise, and tan. After rubbing all of the shavings onto the cardstock, I blended them with Gamsol and a paper stump. Subsequently, I applied Liquid Applique at the bottom of the turquoise color, rubbing it across the cardstock with my finger to smear it, and applied a heat tool.
I die cut and colored with copics the palm trees, sailboat, seagulls, and shells. I added to the shells a blended mixture of three Pearl Ex powders and covered that with glossy accents to prevent smearing when touched.
I used a Whimsy Stamps die to cut a frame from the pencil shavings colored piece of cardstock. I added three layers of foam tape to the frame and attached it to a Tempting Turquoise card base. I attached within the frame and to the card base the remaining colored piece of cardstock. I added all the die cut pieces to finish the card.
May you be inspired by my card and let me know what your thoughts are about this card.

Oh my goodness, Bev – this is stunning! I do believe you created my own backyard! If we travel down the road just a bit, this is what our gorgeous oceans look like, complete with sailboats and seashells! Love the shades of blue and the palm trees – and those shells looks so realistic at the top! wow! Lucky grandson 🙂
